Should You Have a First Look on Your Wedding Day?

Uncategorized

To have or not to have? That’s the question when it comes to a first look. I have confessed my love for an intimate first look several times. Want to know why? Because they are truly AWESOME and truly rock. Sill on the fence? Read on…

What is a first look anyways?
A first look is a private time set aside on your wedding day where you will give another individual the honor of seeing you one-on-one in your wedding gown for the first time. First looks are traditionally done between you and your fiancé, but really they can be done with anyone! Some brides like to have first looks with their fathers, mother, and even bridesmaids. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes.

What happens during a first look?

To put it simply you surprise another person with how beautiful you look! It’s true. If you have a first look on your wedding day we will first decide where to have the first look at. This could be in a church sanctuary, outside your venue, or even in your bridal suite. Then we generally will place your fiancé first, with his face away from you and instruct him not to turn around until you give him the ok to do so. Next you enter the scene looking gorgeous as ever. I always tell every bride to take their time, enjoy the moment, and not to feel rushed. You can simply tell your fiancé to turn around, go tap them on the shoulder, or even swoop up from behind with a big bear hug. We will step back and capture it all.

I’m still not sure if I want to have a first look…

I understand that first looks are not for everyone. Some brides love traditions, and that is ok. If you are on the fence, let me just say that it can be a great way to connect intimately with one another on your wedding day. A first look is a moment of the day that you can have truly to yourself. You can take a moment and let the day really sink in. This is also a great way to calm your nerves a bit before you walk down the aisle. On average every couple that opts for a first look receives double the amount of bride and groom portraits.
